#GPSBoard Pres in absentia Staci Burk tries to snope Snopes in an apparent defense of Ron Bellus’ sex toy gaffe

It appears the Ron Bellus’ great sex toy show has yet to reach its climax.

Yesterday, Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board President in absentia Staci Burk seem to have decided to put in her two cents on the issue with a post in Daryl Colvin’s like-minded Facebook group.  Note we said “seem,” because she did not directly reply to our post nor did she directly refer to our post.

And she found herself a cheering squad, our friends Kittrean Tanner Cook and Samuel Adams, who is also rumored to be as the same guy behind Mathews Equation.

Seriously, folks, it is getting harder and harder to keep a straight face at all of this. But, let’s humor Mrs. Burk and the peanut gallery for a little bit. It is easy to note that it does not take much thinking, critical or otherwise, to debunk this post.

But just for giggles, let us do some critical thinking exercise.

First, based on Ms. Burk’s post, we can surmise that she knows how to use the Internet. Otherwise, she would not have been able to come up with the link to the article she referenced and would not have been able to post it in Facebook.

Second, we can surmise that Ms. Burk more than likely used a search engine to come up with the article. She must have researched Snopes using a search engine (highly likely, Google) and landed on that blog entry.

Third, Ms. Burk it appears did not use the power of the Internet and search engine to validate what she found. Because if she did the next step that she could have potentially done is again go to Google and type in the title of the blog entry: “Snopes got snoped.”

If she did so, Google would have provided her an autofill recommendation that states “Snopes got snoped hoax.” And if she looked that up she would have ended up with the following top 4 results:

Click the image to see Google Result for “snopes got snoped hoax.”

Folks, if we cannot trust what FactCheck.org says, we can pretty much say that we are in deep doo-doo.

Now we can go through every single detail of what FactCheck.org said about this claim and other claims about Snopes, but we can pretty much sum it up this way: FactCheck.org snoped the claim(s) that Snopes got snoped.

Clear as mud? This critical thinking stuff sure is a doozy.

To quote David Emery for his entry for urbanlegends.about.com (first result in our Google Search):

Snopes.com boasts a 15-year-plus record of providing accurate, well-researched, dependable information and analysis, and in that time has earned the confidence of the media, government agencies, the business community, and the general public alike.

All that said, we would like to ask Mrs. Burk if she would like to date a French Model? We know a really nice one.

bonjour

  1. Yes, Ms. Burk asks us to use our critical thinking skills . . . so maybe, just maybe, Ms. Burk should’ve googled “Clinton Middle School” and “Duval County Florida,” the scene of the alleged sex toy/Common Core lesson. What she would’ve found is this: There IS no “Clinton Middle School” in Duval County. There are Clinton Middle Schools in Indiana and Massachusetts, but not in Florida, as the fake news story that Mr. Bellus posted said. And one other critical thinking exercise for Ms. Burk: she should’ve checked the accuracy of the source the “article” came from, info wars.com, a site run by conspiracy wackadoodle Alex Jones. No one but the Kool Aid drinkers of the Farthest Right believe the dreck on the website. Yes, Ms. Burk, we should exercise our critical thinking skills; you might want to try occasionally, too.

  2. Okay, mock and make fun as you usually do; but, what I find very disparaging and concerning is that someone took the time and effort to not only put these photos out there; but also, this woman in these photos was willing to ‘act out’ as though this were a real experience; and then, to put out for all to view. What mother (?) wife (?) teacher (?) daughter (?) … what WOMAN would have such a deep lack of character, respect, morals, etc to participate in such a farce?

One of my important quotes to guide me … “nothing shows a man’s character more than what he laughs at”.

This whole subject is disgusting; and, where there are those who it shocked and there are those who make fun of those who are shocked … I am valiantly standing with those who are shocked. Take a look at the side of the line you are standing on … where you are, says everything.

    • Yes Kit, we laugh at the absurdity of the arguments presented by this so-called board majority, their handlers and followers.

Yes Kit, we laugh at the blatant attempt to distort the issues and deceive people about the underlying challenges that our district faces by people like Ms. Burk, Daryl Colvin, Julie Smith, Tom and Denise Green, H Steven Johnson and Harry Mathews.

Yes Kit, we laugh at the blind and distorted “conservative” allegiance that folks like yourself, Susan Hicks and Steve Barton have to these individuals and those like them despite time and time again it has been proven that majority of what they say is a blatant lie. Simply because it supports your perception of the world.

Yes Kit, we laugh at the multitude of Myths, Lies and Misinformation being spread out by the very people you acquaint yourself with and at the ease at which those myths could be debunk by an informed 6th grader.

Yes Kit, we laugh at the desperate attempts of those very same people in trying to discredit the hardworking men and women within our district to support their endless lies, to enact revenge or simply because they happen to cross one of you.

Yes Kit, we laugh at “feigned indignation” by individuals like yourself after you are challenged for your actions (Please do back it up. We would like to see what evidence you have to support Ms. Burk’s claim).

Yes Kit, “nothing shows a man’s character more than what he laughs at”.

By those standards, please put us on top of that pedestal and we will proudly stand and carry the flag.

  3. But the fact that someone was willing to “act out” this experience has NOTHING to do with the common core. You can’t lump two random things together and become outraged at both of them because one of the totally unrelated items disgusts you. You are certainly welcome to have your opinion on the morality of the act, but don’t succumb to such blatant logical fallacies.

I don’t think anyone is laughing at the act itself. I think people are laughing at the idea that people believe there is any correlation between that woman’s acts and education standards.

    • Seriously? It’s a FAKE story! The woman is Canadian, she works in Canada not Florida, there is no school in Duval County named “Clinton Middle School,” the pictures of the woman had nothing to do with Common Core, nor is there anything remotely sexual connected with Common Core. You missed the point, “kit.”

We can be disgusted by the woman’s behavior, but I am disgusted by those who oppose Common Core who put up silly fiction like this story as some kind of “fact,” to prove how horrible Common Core is.

Worse, when opponents of Common Core use something like this, it hurts their credibility, making other claims suspect as well. No, “kit,” try as you might, the point of this is not the disgusting behavior by the alleged “teacher” but the inanity or deception of those who want to pretend this fake story is somehow fact.

      • EXACTLY!! I oppose common core myself, and ridiculous claims like this one drive me crazy. How can we ever have a civil, productive discussion about what is really wrong with common core when everyone insists on throwing out completely unfounded accusations? I wish people would stop spreading all this misinformation and put their time and effort into fighting the real problems rather than the imaginary ones.

  4. Kit, the woman in the pictures is a sex educator in Canada named Carlyle Jansen, and the pictures are from a real event – FOR ADULTS. It was an extracurricular event hosted by Brock University’s “Brock Pride” club, and it was aimed at teaching safe sex practices to gay students (who, as you may or may not be aware, are often ostracized or marginalized in high school and earlier). So, no one was “used” or “pretended” to give a sex-toy lesson to 6th graders.

Ms. Carlyle apparently has a series of sex education videos up on YouTube, if you’d care to check them out. And if you’re “shocked” by sexual activity among consenting adults… well, I don’t even know what to say. Sex is not disgusting. Not even if it’s done in positions other than missionary.

  5. Stacy Burk said: “Just because something is accepted by the majority, doesn’t make it credible. We must teach our students how to critically analyze sources for credibility.”

Was she talking about the GPS governing Board? The Gilbert voters definitely need to analyze sources for credibility and vote to change the majority voting block on the current school board.
